Developed by the Centre for Innovation in Campus Mental Health, this toolkit aims to equip staff, administrators, and faculty in shifting from a siloed approach to mental health crisis response to a whole-campus approach. A short online course is also included to support further learning.
In this webinar, Healthy Campus Alberta provides an overview of the process to develop and implement campus suicide prevention frameworks through a series of presentations and a panel discussion.
Developed by the University of Calgary, the Suicide Awareness and Prevention Framework is based on the Campus Mental Health Strategy’s vision to create a caring campus community. The framework focuses on long-term system-wide transformation toward safer suicide care for students using seven key goals with the mission to prevent all suicides. The framework focuses on responsiveness and reflects principles within the Zero Suicide Framework created by the Zero Suicide Institute and the Suicide Prevention Resource Centre.
This presentation provides insights into suicidal behaviour from existing literature and surveys in post-secondary settings as well as insights from a study on the correlates and predictors or suicidal behaviours. The presentation also highlights who improves and what facilitates improvement, treatment and how many see treatment and engagement.
In this session, a panel of speakers shared the University of Calgary’s approach to handling student deaths. Each member of the panel presented on an aspect of broader policy, communication and clinical response or practice.
Presentation slides available for download.
