Primary Care Mental Health Services

Best Practices > Service Models & Programs > Primary Care Mental Health Services

Post-secondary institutions provide mental health services within primary care medical clinics.  These services can be provided separately, co-located, or integrated with counselling clinics and by a range of health providers, including family physicians, primary care nurses, social workers, psychologists, and psychiatrists, or more formalized interdisciplinary care teams.  Mental health services may be offered within primary care service delivery models, as well as integrated treatment models, such as shared care, mental health screening protocols, or specialty consultative models. We would like to hear about effective primary care mental health service delivery models.  For project submissions or inquiries, please contact info@bp-net.ca.

  • The Stepped Care Model
Jun 15, 2017 | McGill University, Memorial University, University of British Columbia

The Stepped Care panel presented a new model for university and college counselling centers to organize in a more accessible, empowering and efficient manner both clinic based and healthy campus activities. The model offers the lowest level of intervention intensity warranted by objective continuous outcome and process monitoring. It integrates a range of traditional and emerging online mental health programs systematically within a healthy campus lens. Panelists from Memorial University, McGill University and the University of British Columbia shared their experiences with Stepped Care transformations and outcomes.
