SFU’s Healthy Campus Community Initiative is an award winning initiative that has been internationally recognized for leadership in advancing systemic health promotion within a university context. Planning for the initiative began in 2010, and the first iteration of the initiative was launched in 2011 with the intention of taking a systemic, campus-wide approach to create conditions that enhance health and well-being. The initiative is based on the World Health Organization (WHO) Healthy University Framework which involves working collaboratively to create campus environments that positively influence the health and well-being of students, staff and faculty.

    Designing Healthy Campus Communities Video:

Created by the Canadian Mental Health Association BC Division and Simon Fraser University Health Promotion, this video encourages viewers to think expansively about designing healthy campus communities. This resource succinctly conveys the latest ideas and research on how post-secondary education can be designed to support student health, well-being, learning, and success—from students to presidents, from norms to policies, and from classrooms to residences. Everyone plays a role in fostering an environment where students (and staff) can learn and thrive. While post-secondary institutions are undoubtedly complex, the video emphasizes that small actions can lead to significant outcomes.
