Advancing Decolonization and Indigenization at UBC Counselling Services

May 29 @ 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm EDT

Join the Best Practices Network for a webinar with Kirby Huminuik, Registered Psychologist, Director of Counselling Services, from the University of British Columbia (UBC).

Kirby will discuss how counselling services, as part of UBC Student Health and Wellbeing, is working towards Indigenizing and decolonizing their programs and services. Counselling supports for Indigenous students at UBC-Vancouver have evolved over many years, and with the creation of a new leadership role and staff positions for a team of Indigenous mental health professionals, a comprehensive vision of mental health support for Indigenous students is now being realized with the launch of the Indigenous Mental Health and Wellbeing (IMHW) program in the Fall of 2023. Additionally, counselling services has developed an action plan, designed to engage staff and work toward systemic changes, by articulating guiding principles, investing in professional development, deepening relationships and working toward transforming their clinical practices.

This webinar is part of ourĀ Conversation Series: Advancing Decolonization and Indigenization in Post-Secondary Student Mental Health and Wellbeing. This series is a national conversation on how post-secondary institutions can advance their decolonization efforts.
